A licensed Professional Engineer for 8 years before that. Unfortunately, my current profession has been corrupted by the proliferation of law schools handing out diplomas in return for a big check. Leaving us rotten with attorneys who are little more than shop keepers selling wares from a computer disk they themselves purchased from their bar association or some other publisher.
Is it any wonder that if you go to an attorney who “specializes” in wills and trusts and say, “I want a will,” that you’ll leave with a will–without any consideration of whether you really need a will or not? The same goes with many so-called “business attorneys.” They’re glad to incorporate your business, register your LLC, provide an employment agreement or anything else you'd like to buy because like Legal Vroom, the forms are already on their computer. A global replacement of names and addresses and “voilà,” you’re down the road, poorer but no wiser. Maybe protected. Maybe not.
My specialty is my clientèle. I claim no particular specialty of law. I have a broad range of legal knowledge that combined with real world experience allows me to render valuable legal advice. It is often said the first step in solving any problem is acknowledging its existence. A better solution is avoiding the problem altogether by recognizing its potential and correcting it before it becomes a problem. In the parlance, this is known as "issue spotting."
